It’s been a while since I last wrote on this blog, the biggest part of that being that I’ve been blessed over the past couple of months with trips away from home—several trips to visit friends, a couple of weeks cooking at some Christian kids’ camps, a trip to our capitol city for a church conference, and a few delightful visitors here at home, too.
The naive Esther of June, thinking I’d have a busy start to my winter and then get to settle down and actually enjoy a winter at home (oh, the luxury!), is no more. Instead, I’ve had the blessing of connecting with Christians from all over the country (and beyond!) over the last two months, and as I sit here writing tonight, preparing for yet another trip, I’m so thankful for the opportunities the Lord has placed in front of me, and the joy it is to know that He’s in control of my life.
Our Father is SO good, friend. He really is!
I haven’t had a lot of time to think about reading in the past few weeks, what with all this going or preparing to go. This time, since I’m going overseas (and since we’re somehow halfway through August already?!), I decided to stick with ebooks for my TBR list, and, specifically, the ARCs/for-review books that will be published within the next month.

Things We Cannot Keep by Amanda Cox
Why I chose this book: Cox is one of my all-time favorite authors. Nearly all her books have been 5-star reads for me, and I love the idea of a character who is running from her past while trying to help others preserve their past. I mean, isn’t that the perfect set-up for lots of internal conflict and potential growth?

The Adventures of Odysseus by Nicolás Schuff
Why I chose this book: I’ve been curious about The Odyssey for years, but I doubt I’ll ever actually read the book. This seems like a good way to get an overview of the story without the effort required to read a potentially wordy and hard-to-follow book (plus, what isn’t there to love about a graphic novel?).

Library of Forbidden Books by Mario Escobar
Why I chose this book: I enjoyed Escobar’s The Swiss Nurse back in 2024, and I’ve been meaning to read more by him since then. I’m expecting this will be a hard, somewhat gritty story, but also full of bookish things and real history.

Every Given Day by Cathy Gohlke
Why I chose this book: Cathy Gohlke delivered one of the best plot twists in Ladies of the Lake that I’ve seen in ages, and since then, I thoroughly loved This Promised Land—enough that I ended up buying seven of her books second-hand recently (I can’t wait to read them!). This one is about the discovery of insulin, and since I love medical-type stories and know I’ll be sucked into anything Gohlke writes, I can’t wait to pick this book up.
What are you hoping to read in the next few weeks?
